For months now, God has been speaking to me about healing and wholeness, as He sees it.
In fact, I’ve received whole downloads from His Spirit while sitting in the hospital with my very ill son for days on end. It contradicts my logic.
Clearly I don’t understand everything, but He is taking me on a journey of learning how to be healthy and whole in every area that He intends, even without seeing that come to fruition yet in my own life. You might correctly deduce that I’m logically unqualified to talk about healing when my family would be one of the most physically unhealthy ones you know.
Just this week I was flat in bed for days with a sinus infection. My husband has had Type 1 Diabetes for over 30 years now. My son had been continually confined to bed for the last six years with severe illness (to learn more about his health battle, you can read that here) and recently my other son has been hit with a mysterious intestinal infection that we are currently exploring.
Today in a stronger moment, I am choosing not to dwell on this “smoke and mirrors” stuff, because I’m fairly certain that our future includes helping other people come into wholeness. Perhaps that is why the vehement opposition. (We know there has been a significant spiritual aspect to our son’s illness, for more, read ➡ What’s Really Going on Here?) The enemy always attacks us in an area of future destiny, but that’s a subject for another day. Sharing what I’ve learned is part of my own personal warfare.
That all being said, yesterday I spoke with a natural practitioner who uses an intriguing method of healing, a computerized system based on Chinese medicine.
Some would argue that Chinese medicine is often more effective and has a longer track record than the western medicine practiced in America. At times Christians get ruffled because most of the Chinese philosophy was born out of a polytheistic worldview, but that doesn’t mean that there are not important truths in its foundational approach to health. True discernment with the Holy Spirit is agreeing with the truth while disregarding the unbiblical worldview part.
Consider that God created ALL things, and that satan cannot create. He can only distort and counterfeit the truth to bring confusion and keep people from coming into understanding. Fearing deception, many Christians throw out the entire practice which causes our enemy to cheer with glee, as then we block ourselves from the truth that will set us free.
[A side note, another example of the enemy twisting God’s intent is in astrology. Psalm 148:3 tells us that the stars, moon and sun praise God. Creation points to the Creator. The devil has twisted this around. The result is that some people worship the sun, moon, stars and even the earth instead. To worship the physical world around us is to tragically miss the God who made all things. It’s the classic standard evil approach the devil has used since the beginning of time.]
My discussion with the health practitioner was about the destructive emotions associated with a decline in physical health. Interesting to me was that she referred to these emotions as “demons” which feels legit. There are seven universal destructive emotions including fear, guilt, shame and grief. It doesn’t surprise me that these detrimental emotions to the human soul and body are specifically ones that Jesus abolished with his sacrifice for us on the cross.
True wholeness is health not only in body, but also in soul (mind + emotions) and in spirit. In all three areas with all things working, nothing missing, nothing holding us back, all three existing in perfect peace.
Here’s the thing. You can be healthy in one without health in the other two. We all have one or more of the three that have probably not arrived at the level of perfect heavenly health. In relationship with God we get to learn and grow in the areas that He gently shows us if we choose to take that journey with Him and listen to His voice. In relationship we learn what part of our wholeness is our responsibility and what part is His responsibility.
To give you an example, for the last four years I have spent hours each day deepening my personal spiritual relationship with God. As a result my spirit is healthy and strong. However, because of our intense daily emergency with our son I haven’t had a break, a breather, a vacation, nothing for six years. My body and soul are tired. And honestly I would pretty much rather do anything but exercise. However, one day I took a moment to thank God that my body was still working pretty well in the face of horrific stress.
He answered me back.
I have protected your body all these years so that you could take care of Carson because you couldn’t take care of yourself. The time is coming when I will turn this responsibility back to you and you will take it over again.
This was His nice way of saying, “Your relationship with Me is nice and strong because of your commitment to health in your spirit. Your soul is also stronger and healthier than it used to be. But the time is coming when you won’t be able to sit around eating potato chips and reading the Bible if you want to be completely whole.” I guess it’s time to engage that exercise plan. See, He cares about us experiencing health in all three areas.
We will discuss more about body, soul and spirit health in the future. In the meantime, there is one key that you cannot miss. It is only in hearing His voice that we can come to solutions for health in all three parts. We were never created to live apart from Him, chasing body health conditions, medications, living stressed out, or figuring out how to live with deep emotional wounds. The answers will be found when we listen.
Exodus 15:26 (my paraphrase):
“If you will listen to My voice and do what is right and obey what I tell you, you won’t suffer those diseases that the Egyptians suffered. For I am the Lord Who Heals You.

Very enlightening Bryn, thanks. Joe & I have found as we age how much muscle we lose over time & my being so sick this past yr with limitations on what I am able to eat without getting sick, & them not always being the healthiest of choices, have found that we need to just take the time & force ourselves to exercise. Joe is doing a lot better then me but it is important! God Bless!
